Keep your eyes open for an interview with me in the upcoming June issue of Diabetes Forecast Magazine. I'll be featured in an article titled, "Fathers Know Best".

I was interviewed recently by Laura K. from Discuss Diabetes about blogging, advocacy and being a father. Laura and I talked for over an hour and we covered some topics that I don't usually get to write about here on Arden's Day.
In the book Scott tells the stories of what he saw as pivotal moments. “I wanted to leave people feeling uplifted, more connected with the idea of family being most important,” he said. “It comes from recognizing there’s probably nothing more important that you can do than just watch your kid at baseball practice for five minutes because it means more to him than you can understand.”
Laura closes the interview by giving her thoughts on Life Is Short, Laundry Is Eternal. They are among the most touching words that I could imagine hearing. I hope you have a few seconds to check it out.
Speaking of my new book that arrives on April 2nd...
I've added a review section to my book page. Look for recent reviews by Manny Hernandez from TUDiabetes and Chris Snider from the Just Talking PodCast.
I'm being told that the eBook formats often become available weeks before the launch date - I'll let you know when you can download.
Those wanting a paperback take note: Amazon and Barnes & Noble have both dropped the price for LIS to $9.47. If you are planning on buying the book, this is the lowest price that I've seen yet. Pre-Orders should arrive at your home on the release date. Links to both sites, as well as Canadian and UK Amazon are here.
I'm humbled and a bit taken aback by the amount of requests that I'm receiving for autographed copies of LIS. So far we only have one signing scheduled but I'm working on getting more opportunities set up. I'm also trying to work out a way that I can provide copies directly without adding tons of shopping costs. Stay tuned and follow Life Is Short on FaceBook for updates.
Have a great weekend!
Scott

The Kindle Version of 'Life Is Short' just populated on Amazon US, Canada and UK. The system is accepting pre-orders now and your Kindle version will be available for download on March 12 - that's 21 days before the paperback. No word yet about Nook and iBooks, should be soon.

The nicest recurring compliment that I've ever received comes from people who know me in real life, has to, here's why. People say that when they read my writing they can, "hear my voice". One of my dear friends told me that it's like having me read to him. I always find this sentiment particularly touching.
So if "having me read to you" sounds like an attractive idea, you are in luck. On Monday, December 17, 2012 at 9 pm I'm going to be chatting my silly head off with Bennet and Lorraine on DSMA Live, Parents Talk. Feel confident that you'll hear more then enough of my mellifluous and dulcet tones to give you the ability to hear me when you read my stuff too. Cause no joke, I talk a lot. I'm betting that anyone that tunes in late won't even know Lorraine and Bennet are there, sorry guys!
The hosts haven't shared what topics they are hoping to cover with the exception of one. We are going to talk in a bit of detail about how I forged the good relationship that we have at Arden's school and turned it into our current type I diabetes management plan. The rest will be a surprise even to me. So if 504 plans and cool new ways to manage your kid's BGs while they're not with you sounds like a fun way to spend an hour, this will be right up your alley.
I can tell you a few things for sure. It'll be fun, informative and if you call in to say hello or ask a question... I'd love that very much!

Spry Publishing (my book publisher) is featuring interviews with several different people from the D.O.C. for Diabetes Awareness Month. They recently asked me who my D-Hero is.
There are so many heroes in the diabetes community. Bloggers who share so that others can be comforted, parents who don’t sleep, and people who lead by example. Every person living with type 1 diabetes is a hero. These people do something brave in the name of their health every second of every day.
But if I had to pick just one person…
You can read the rest of my answer on Spry's blog.

The best aspect of the Roche Social Media Summit was meeting other members of the DOC, like Chris Snider. Chris has a fantastic podcast called, 'Just Talking' and he was kind enough to ask me to appear on it along with a bunch of other summit attendees.
The entire episode is a great listen with familiar DOC names (in order of appearance) like Cherise Shockley (who shares some exciting news about DSMA), Stacey Divone, George Simmons, Scott Johnson, Lee Ann Thill, Wendy Rose, Sara Nicastro, Kim Vlasnik and Kerri Sparling. My bit comes last at 41:00 where I announce the title of my upcoming book, smart mouth a bit about minor league baseball and talk about being the parent of a child with type I diabetes. It's a light conversation until Chris asks me about how I view my role in the DOC, then things "get real".
So if you are interested to hear how I think about type I blogging, want a spoiler about my book title (that isn't happening on this site until tomorrow) or are just interested in hearing my voice... check out 'Just Talking' by clicking on the image at the top of this post or by following this link.
Much of this episode is recorded at a baseball game so there is wind noise, however my interview happens indoors so it is very easy to listen to.
