"Diabetes", a poem by Arden

Arden's Poem, "Diabetes" I found this poem in Arden's writer's notebook at the end of the school year and I wanted to share it with all of you. I asked Arden and she gave me permission to post it. I believe that these are the first words on Arden's Day to come directly from Arden.

So without further ado and transcribed exactly as she wrote it... I present, "Diabetes" a poem by Arden, age seven.

Diabetes

Why did you pick me?

Why's diabetes diabetes?

How did diabetes get here?

Why is diabetes called diabetes?

Why is there type one diabetes

and type 2 diabetes.

How did diabetes get in life?

Why are you here?

I'm not scared of you evean

Oh my!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this, Scott!! So many questions, and you know what my main takeaway from that is: You have a daughter who's SO BRAVE and STRONG!!! Not going to be afraid of D no matter what happens - Arden, you rule!!!

Aww, such a great poem! I raised a daughter, she got diabetes at 26 months old. Today, is a special day for her, she has been on her job for 3 years, as a Federal Agent! She turns 29 years old in a couple of months. My husband and I raised her to be strong and not to be afraid of Diabetes. She played competitive soccer, got an academic scholarship to college and earned a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. She decided to work for the US because she needed security and a fantastic health benefits. Diabetes has shaped her life but she never let Diabetes be a stepping stone. So Arden, you are such a beautiful big girl and Diabetes will teach you lots of lessons but It will make you strong!! Keep on being positive and may God bless you always, just like my little girl! <3

Your comments really shine a light on why social media is so valuable in the lives of so many. I didn't think that I could possibly feel more proud of Arden for writing this but I was wrong.

Kim, Mike and Maggy you all took this experience to a new level for me, I can't wait to share your thoughts, wishes and (Maggy's) amazing story with Arden!

I all ready gave her Cherise's hug (twitter feedback).

xoxo

so sweet - my heart broke a little thinking of your sweet girl asking such big questions that even moms and dads can't answer.
